Replacing a plant at the end of its life

The project represents a significant investment in Gilgandra’s essential wastewater infrastructure and will replace the town’s existing treatment plant, which has served the community for approximately 60 years and is now approaching the end of its operational life.

The new facility will provide a modern, reliable and more efficient wastewater treatment system for the Gilgandra community. Once operational, the plant is expected to treat almost 20 per cent more wastewater each day, providing additional capacity to support the future growth and development of the region.

Project scope

Tallai’s scope includes the delivery of a new sewage treatment plant together with two associated sewage pumping stations and supporting network infrastructure. The works will broadly include:

• New wastewater inlet and pumping infrastructure
• Modern biological treatment and clarification systems
• Treated effluent disinfection infrastructure
• Sludge handling and management systems
• Two new or upgraded sewage pumping stations
• New pipelines and connections to the existing sewer network
• Electrical, instrumentation, control and telemetry systems
• Civil works, structures, access roads, drainage and site services
• Testing, commissioning and integration of the new infrastructure
• Transition from the existing treatment plant while maintaining wastewater services

Keeping the town connected through construction

A key requirement of the project will be maintaining reliable wastewater services throughout construction and commissioning. The new systems will be progressively connected and brought online before redundant infrastructure is decommissioned.
